UCO
Minyak jelantah or commonly called Used Cooking Oil (UCO) is oil produced from vegetable cooking oils such as corn oil, vegetable oil, ghee, and so on. This used cooking oil is used oil for household and industrial use. Consuming sustainable used cooking oil is very dangerous for human health, because it contains compounds that are carcinogenic which can trigger various diseases such as cancer, hypertension and various other diseases. With proper management, used cooking waste can be managed into environmentally friendly natural energy, namely Bioenergy (Biodiesel).
The negative impacts of used cooking waste are as follows:
For the environment
- Careless disposal of used cooking waste into drains can cause blockages in drain pipes and flooding
- 1 liter of used cooking oil can pollute 1 million liters of water so that it can pollute sea rivers and their contents
- The impact of oil pollution in rivers or seas takes years to neutralize so that it can return to normal
For health
- High saturated fatty acid content causes coronary heart disease and stroke
- Increased risk of hypertension, cholesterol, blood clots, and even kidney problems
- It easily undergoes oxidation and can produce aflatoxin poison which creates dangerous compounds that can trigger cancer
